Coastal blocks here get wind and salt, and the lawns and hedges respond to it. Exposed hedges can look scorched on the windward side. The soil near the beach is sandy and dries out quickly, so mulch and a working irrigation system do a lot of the heavy lifting. See reticulation checks if yours has been left alone for a while.
