A wardrobe is the flat-pack job most likely to take the whole weekend and still leave a door that won't slide. Beds are quicker, but they have their own traps.
Wardrobes
Sliding doors are the fiddly bit. They need to hang level on their tracks and run smoothly, which depends on the carcass being square and the floor not being badly out of level. Hinged doors need adjusting so the gaps are even. Tall wardrobes should be fixed to the wall, and we do that as part of the job, with fixings suited to your wall type.
Beds
Frames, slats, headboards, storage beds and bunks. Bunk beds and anything for young children should be built carefully and checked for wobble. If you have a mattress already, tell us the size, because it's worth confirming it fits the frame before we finish.
Other bedroom furniture
Chests of drawers, bedside tables and dressing tables. Chests of drawers are the ones to wall-fix, since a toppling chest is a real hazard around kids. See anchoring tall furniture for the reasons.
What to have ready
- Boxes in the room they're going to live in
- Space to lay out panels on the floor
- The product name or a link, so we can work out the time
Cardboard and packaging leave with us. See also flat-pack assembly, or add a few other jobs from handyman repairs. Ring 02 6626 3819 or email sales@lincolnchen.net.
Dismantling and moving
If you're moving house, we can take furniture apart and rebuild it at the other end. Keep the screws, cams and fittings in a labelled bag. Missing parts are the most common reason a rebuild stalls.
