Old, cracked or mouldy caulking looks bad, and in wet areas it lets water behind things where you can't see it.
Where it matters most
Around the bath and shower, where walls meet the floor, behind sinks, along benchtops and splashbacks, and round window frames. Wet areas in a humid climate grow black mould in poor seals quickly.
How it's done
The old sealant has to come out first. Putting new on top of old doesn't last. The surface is cleaned and dried, the new bead goes in, and it needs time to cure before it gets wet. We'll tell you how long, so you don't jump in the shower and ruin it.
When it's more than caulking
If there's water damage behind the sealant, soft or swollen wall lining, or tiles that are lifting, caulking isn't the fix. We'll tell you what we see. A leaking shower is a job for a licensed professional.
Often done as part of handyman repairs. The mould page has more on damp and mould outside.
